Written by: Franklin Wahlstrom | March 24th, 2025
After a trip to New York City attending the Intercollegiate Broadcasting System conference, Prowl Member Franklin Whalstrom collected his thoughts together to reflect on the experience

I originally wrote these (extremely sleep deprived) on a Mnemosyne notepad I bought at Mcnally Jackson Books in Rockefeller Center for 2.95$, I figured they should be put in digital form too. Each number coincides with a sheet on the notepad.

First day in NYC! Gonna recap my days here, maybe to post, so if your reading this, I
did! Woke up at 4:15 am today to get to the Amtrak station in MKE on time. That was
evil, plus I probably could have given myself ~30min more to sleep and been fine.
Whatever. Met up with Ethan and Stephanie at the station and made the train just fine.
2
We rode to Chicago then ubered to O’Hare from union station. Everything went smooth!
Met up with Molly and Ian at our gate, and flew to Laguardia. No complaints about the
flight, except there was zero leg room >:( we ubered to our hotel in times square and
checked in just fine. We ate at the Canes in times square, (which is evil to navigate, by
the way) and had a lovely meal!
3
We decided to go shopping tonight, we went to the Disney store (underwhelming) and
the Nintendo store (Awesome!) I got a hat there. Then to a cool bookstore (more on
that later) after that we went to the Lego store, which rocked. Then we went to rough
trade records, which was closed for an event. We’ll come back another day.
4
We wound up at the NBC store which was very cool, then got some ice cream. 10$ for
one scoop. Crazy. It was earl gray flavor though, which was delicious. After that, we
made it back to the bookstore, where I got this notebook! and a comic book about a
stoner witch and a werewolf in a DIY band. That was cool, now were back at the hotel
exhausted. Day 1 of the conference tomorrow! Goodnight!

Just made it back from our escapades today (the 7th). Long and eventful day! I woke up
and walked to centeral park at 6:30 am, I listened to For Emma, Forever ago by Bon
Iver and Two Hands by Big Thief and walked around till like 9. That shit was beautiful.
New York is so lovely.
6
Then i met up with everyone else and we went to the IBS conference! I won’t bore us
with the details, but I learned a lot that I want to bring back to prowl. Big things on the
way. Mid way through, we got pizza for lunch. They ran that place like the navy. After
day 1 of the conference, we went to central park, and went to strawberry fields.
7
We found a street performer playing Beatles covers and Ian sang a song with her then
interviewed her. It was rad. Then, we walked through the park some more and hopped
on the subway to Columbia university. We found the Seinfeld diner and had a lovely
meal there. Then we got back on the subway to the 9/11 memorial.
8
That was really special. We walked to the shore, and saw the tiny statue of liberty in
the distance. After that, we took the train back and got boba in times square. We went
around filming content and exploring the area, then saw the midnight minute are thing.
Very cool! I just got back now, time to go to bed. Goodnight!

Just got home, “early” bedtime tonight cuz we have to fly out at like 9am
tomorrow. Woke up at 6:30 again today and listened to more Big Thief in Central
Park. What an amazing place. Day two of the conference was lovely once again. Al
Roker was there, neat! Me and Ian and Molly got lunch at the diner that serves coke
the old fashioned way,
10
Which was tasty but cost A Lot. That was kind of a theme this trip unfortunately. But
whatever, it’s New York. After the conference ended, the three of us went over to
Washington Square Park and NYU campus. Really cool area! We went on a record
store crawl and hit like 5 stores. Really cool stuff. Shame I cant really take records
back to MKE in my bag.
11
After that, we went back to the hotel to chill. Then we got dinner at a lovely taco place
near times square. After dinner, I split away to go see Harry Potter and the Cursed
Child on Broadway! It rocked! The special effects and overall production were top
notch, which is what I was looking for. Shame the script is not very good lol.
12
Now I’m back at the hotel ready for bed. A lovely trip overall! Thank you prowl! Big
Things Coming! Goodnight!

Just made it home! We had to wake up at 5 am today which was evil, but we had to
make our flight to Chicago so it is what it is.
The flight was very cramped and evil unfortunatly, but I made it through. In Chicago, we
split off from Molly and Ian and headed to the union station to take an Amtrak home.
We had some time to chill before the train, so me and Ethan hit up a record store in the
loop. They had a lot of cool stuff.
14
I ended up getting U.F.O.F. by Big Thief, which I had been listening to a ton on this trip.
I’m spinning it right now! The train was fine, I slept mostly as I got 4 hours of sleep last
night (thank you daylight savings). It’s such a beautiful day though today I can’t be mad.

I feel super grateful to be able to have gone on this trip. Prowl has done so much for
me it’s ridiculous. I feel so grateful to have met and gotten to know the folks on this
trip. Ian, Molly, Stephanie, and Ethan you are all so lovely and I’m so happy we could go
on this trip together. This is the end of the road for these notes, what an amazing
experience. Peace and love my friends.
