If you have been keeping up with Taylor Swift: The Eras tour, you might know Sabrina Carpenter, as one of her openers. But this isn’t her start to the industry, she first started off in acting in 2010 with a guest role in NBC drama show Law and Order: SVU. Then two years later she got the role as “Maya Hart” on the spin-off of “Boy Meets World” called “Girl Meets World” where she was the role of the best friend.
In 2014 she went on to sign with Hollywood Records that led to her first EP called “Can’t Blame a Girl For Trying”. Then her debut album dropped in 2015 called “Eyes Wide Open” with the leading single “We’ll Be The Stars.” Throughout the years she went on to drop three more albums with popular songs such as “Thumbs,” “Why,” “Sue Me,” and “Skin.” During those years, she went on three different tours. Which brings us to 2022, when Sabrina dropped her 5th studio album called “Emails I Can’t Send” which contained her hit song “Nonsense”, which later went viral on social media. She went on to perform the “Emails I Can’t Send tour” era, in which she did crazy outros to her song Nonsense that are all over TikTok.

In 2023 she released a deluxe version called “Emails I Can’t Send fwd:” which included 4 new songs, (Opposite is my favorite out of the four). Her new song “Feather” has gone super viral and she just dropped a music video for it. Now she is currently the opener for Taylor Swift on her Eras Tour.

This review is on “Fruitcake” by Sabrina Carpenter. It’s a 6 track EP starting off with “A Nonsense Christmas,” which is the lead single of this EP. It came out in 2022 and it’s a remix of her original song “Nonsense.” In my opinion, it’s a perfect way to start off the EP, it definitely gives trendy pop vibes like an Ariana Grande song or something you would see trending on TikTok. The second song on the EP is “Buy Me Presents.” At first the melody gave me the vibe of something that you’d hear in an ad. However, the song has a powerful message that if he doesn’t wanna do things for you then someone else will. For a Christmas song, I love the pop-like vibe of this song. The Adlib in the second verse where she talks about Santa in a secretive way is so perfect, it just makes so much sense. I love the use of what I believe is a saxophone towards the end, and is overall an extremely catchy song. It is one of my favorites.

The next track is called “Santa doesn’t know you like I do” . My first impression is that the melody is really calming, then it moves to a slightly quicker beat. Her higher vocals are so good in this and her talking at the bridge is to die for. The forth track switches vibes with “Cindy Lou who”. It goes into more of a sad vibe, I’ve never really listened to sad Christmas songs. It really reminds me of “Heather” by Conan Gray or “Lacy” by Olivia Rodrigo. It is obviously about someone moving on and feeling like the person they are now with is better than you. The
melody and piano are amazing and it is absolutely going on my sad girl playlist.

The fifth track is “Is It New Years Yet?”. The beat reminds me of her song Feather or Read Your Mind. It’s about being single during the holidays which is very relatable for many people this time of year. I like the use of bells in the song and the lyrics are catchy. The second verse is to die for and this is one of my favorites of the EP. The last song is “White Xmas,” which is a cover of “White Christmas” by Bing Crosby and it is so beautifully done. Her voice sounds so beautiful and angelic, it sounds so perfectly put together. This cover is the perfect way to end her EP.

I honestly really enjoyed this EP, it feels nice to have some different types of Christmas songs out there. I never thought you could make a Christmas song that would make me tear up but that’s what “Cindy Lou Who” did to me. It kind of reminds me of Ariana Grande’s Christmas song that she has done in the past. Overall it has very pop-like vibes throughout the whole album with some twist in it, like a sad ballad half way through, and a peaceful cover to end it off. If you like Christmas music, I would absolutely recommend listening to this EP or if you want new music to listen too, I would check out Sabrina Carpenter’s music.
