On Flick Picks, I curate needle drops from film history. Think of Ferris Bueller walking through the Chicago Art Museum, or a groups of teenagers hanging out in Dazed and Confused. You picture the scene and I’ll play the music A Film Studies major, I’m always trying to expand my catalog of film knowledge, and I attempt to expose listeners to unique movies while also playing a wide variety of music. Sub-Cultured takes a look through modern decades of alternative, we dug through your families records from the 90s that inspired todays rock scene. From early emo to progressive rock we will be going through the genres that encouraged self expression throughout the decades. We’ll be choosing different bands or subgenres of the alternative scene from the 90s-2010s explaining their significance to the scene whether it be socially, politically or the impact to our own personal lives.

My favorite genre, and the one I’ve collected the most, is Indie Rock, with my favorite artists being Vampire Weekend, New Order, and Alvvays.

Jacob's Ladder
Jacob’s Ladder is a show that explores the many subgenres of Heavy Metal. Each week features a set of songs pertaining to that week’s subgenre. Between songs, you’ll also hear Jacob talk about the music, from personal experiences to historical and genre defining significance. Last semester, the subgenres included Alternative Metal, Progressive Metal, Metal core, etc. This Spring, tune in for some more extreme subgenres, such as Death Metal and Black Metal.
